MyFax is a budget-friendly online faxing service from the makers of eFax, offering users the ability to fax online via the web, mobile apps, or email-to-fax. We’ve reviewed MyFax’s quality, price, user-friendliness and security, to help you understand if it’s worth using.
MyFax seems to aim more at the individual user rather than business customers, offering lower prices for fewer fax pages, and less security and customer support. You can subscribe on a monthly basis, or for a year at a time for a discount, and all users can fax the following ways:
- Email-to-fax
- Mobile apps for iPhone and Android
- Web faxing via an internet browser
The Good…
- Benefits from the infrastructure and fax quality of eFax
- Budget-friendly option for people who don’t fax much
- Offers all users the ability to fax via any platform or device, with only one account
The Bad…
- Bad value beyond the basic subscription
- Poor mobile app and web faxing user-experience, making it difficult to use
- Lack of security features like HIPAA compliance, even on most expensive subscription
Guide – How To Use MyFax
How To Sign Up To MyFax
Setting up a MyFax subscription and getting started is very simple, and only takes a few minutes. First, head to their website. There’s a big ‘Sign Up’ button, and at the time of writing, MyFax offers a promotion for new users showing ‘Start For Only $5’.
You’ll then see the sign up page. All you need to do is fill out the details on this page, then you’re signed up. The biggest decision here is choosing your fax number. You can select a country (in case you want an international fax number), then an area or toll free number code.

You’ll need to look up the local number area code that you want, which you can do on this handy page. This is one instance where MyFax falls short of other online fax services – services like Municorn’s Fax App, or EveryFax, will tell you the area code is you just type in the name of the town or region.
Once you’ve signed up, your MyFax account details will be emailed to you and you’ll be able to log in on any device.
One strange thing that happens once you sign up, is that the MyFax website takes you to the landing page below. There’s no way to get out of this page – we tried a few different ways.

To start faxing, you have to just refresh or close the window and start again on the MyFax home page, where you’ll be able to log in. Somebody at MyFax should fix this.
So to start faxing, exit that page and head back to MyFax’s website – click on ‘Log In’ and enter the details that have been emailed to you.
How To Send Faxes And Receive Faxes
There are several ways to send and receive faxes once you have signed up to MyFax:
- Using the mobile app on your phone
To fax using the phone app (MyFax has an app available for iPhone and Android), download the app and log in. You can then select ‘Compose A Fax’ from the menu, and you’ll see the page below.

- Using the MyFax website.
You can also go straight to MyFax’s web page and log in, to fax from an internet browser on any computer or smartphone. You’ll see the landing menu below, which is easy to follow. Select ‘Send Faxes’ to compose and send a fax.

- Faxing with email-to-fax.
MyFax also offers email faxing included in all packages. This means you can simply open your regular email account and send a fax. All you need to do, using the email account your subscription is registered to, is to compose an email, type your recipient’s fax number instead of an email address in the ‘To:’ field, and then type ‘@send.myfax.com‘. Then send your email message – it will be converted into a fax and sent. - Receive faxes
MyFax should send you your fax number after you’ve created your account. When you receive a fax, you’ll get an email notification, and you can log on using any of the methods outlined above to view any received faxes. MyFax offers unlimited archived faxes for all customers, meaning you’ll never run out of space.
MyFax – Review
To review MyFax, we’ve downloaded, subscribed and used it on all platforms, sending the following documents as faxes – a sample invoice, and a sample brochure page. These two documents are common items that people might fax, and have a good mix of images, text and shapes – giving you a reliable way of judging the quality.
We’ve given MyFax a score out of 5 in these four key categories:
- Quality – How well does it work, and how good is the quality of faxing and service?
- Usability – How easy and enjoyable is MyFax to use?
- Price – Is MyFax good value?
- Security and Customer Support – Is it safe to use, and do customers get good help?
Quality
Score: 3/5
First, let’s talk about the quality of the fax transmission. On this front, MyFax is quite average in terms of online fax services. We were happy with the results – particularly with the brochure page test below – you can see clear images, text, and shaded graphics coming through well, when comparing to the original document we faxed.

It’s good, but not great. If you look closely on the MyFax faxed document, you’ll notice slightly blurry text, and a square gridding effect over the large image of the apartment – for some reason it didn’t like the large image.
When we compare to another leading online fax service, Municorn’s Fax App, we’ll see slightly clearer text and no blurry gridlines over the large image.

Ultimately it’s close, but MyFax falls slightly short of the top fax apps when it comes to image quality.
Transmission speed is a bigger concern. We sent a simple 2-page fax (plus a cover sheet), and it took 498 seconds to send. That’s over 8 minutes, which is well behind other faxing services in terms of speed.
The reason this is a problem, is that with services like international faxing, MyFax charges customers 1 page for every minute of the transmission – not for every page.
We were sending a domestic fax and the speed was very slow, so this could mean a lot of money if a regular international fax takes this long – therefore we’re not sure that choosing MyFax is the best option for international numbers.
There’s also a stark lack of features or ‘extras’ when it comes to MyFax. It feels like a budget option, especially on the mobile app, which is very simple and basic – unlike other apps which often include options such as customisable cover sheets, or scheduled sending. Overall, there isn’t much to get excited about.
One thing that is very good, however, is the ability to send a fax to up to 50 fax numbers at once – this is a great timesaver if you’re sending multiple faxes.
Usability
Score: 2/5
MyFax is below average on user-friendliness, for many reasons.
Firstly, the website is clunky to use, and feels more like a Windows 95 application than something a tech company would be offering in 2025. Anybody who has used eFax will recognize the same exact web design and interface for users – it’s just not nice to use, and leads to issues like the one we had after signing up, where we needed to refresh the entire page just to log in.
Take a look at the menu below to see an example of this – we’ve taken the EveryFax menu and compared it to MyFax – which one looks more modern, appealing, and easy & simple to use?

Side note – that little blue button in the bottom of the EveryFax menu is a live chat option, where you can speak to their AI or a customer service representative in real-time, getting instant responses.
Below is an example of MyFax’s ‘Chat’ option, which isn’t a Chat option at all, but just a form you submit to wait for an email response.

We also had some functionality issues which made MyFax pretty frustrating to use. For example, there’s no way to see your outbox, or your ‘faxes in progress’ status. Once you send a fax, it disappears until it has sent, when it finally appears in your sent folder. This makes it hard to know if your faxes are being delayed, and why.
There’s also a big delay between sending a fax, and having that show up on your ‘Usage’ report, where you can track how many of your monthly pages you have sent. This makes it difficult to know how many pages you have left to send for the month.
Next, let’s talk about the mobile app. It’s very simple and basic, and not necessarily in a good way. One thing that bothered us was the in-app camera option for scanning documents. Many online fax services have clever software that turns your camera into a scanner, with automatic document detection and border cropping that makes it easy to scan perfect documents.
MyFax just opens up the camera, and it works like a regular camera – no clever scanning software. This means you aren’t getting a scan of a document – just a photo – so you’ll have issues capturing the edges of the document, and you will probably also end up faxing a picture of everything around the document!
Beyond the scanning, the app is less easy and enjoyable to use than other apps. Compare the two ‘send’ menus below – the Municorn fax app includes helpful features like a flag to show the country you’re sending a fax to, a picture preview of all the documents you’re sending, and the fax number in the proper visual format – which makes it easier to read and check. The MyFax menu, in comparison, is harder to understand visually, and looks like less effort has gone into making it.

There’s one final problem with using MyFax – and it’s the same issue on eFax – it constantly logs you out! This means every time you reopen the web page or mobile app, you have to sign in all over again. This gets very annoying very quickly!
Price
Score: 3/5
MyFax’s pricing is most appealing for its cheapest, basic package, which it calls the ‘Home Office User’ deal. Although 100 pages per month is not much, this is a genuinely good deal if you don’t do a lot of faxing, but want to keep your own fax number to send and receive faxes with no fax machine required. It certainly beats the cost of keeping a fax machine.

This is MyFax at its best – a budget alternative to eFax, which is owned and operated by the same business. You get a similar quality and experience to eFax, but with a much lower monthly bill.
Speaking of monthly, MyFax offers a monthly subscription or an annual subscription, the annual works out considerably cheaper for someone who wants a long-term fax number. Although there’s no weekly offer like some services provide, this is still a cost effective solution.
Offering less value, however, are the ‘Small Business User’ and ‘Power User’ options. There are much better deals for $25 and $45 per month, including services that offer more fax pages, better apps, and security features such as HIPAA compliance. Municorn’s Fax App, for example, offers unlimited pages (including international faxing) and full HIPAA compliant protection at $29.99.
MyFax offers average rates for faxes to international fax numbers, and does feature a helpful tool on the website to show you how much a fax page would cost to each country.

Security and Customer Support
Score: 2/5
MyFax is in the eFax ecosystem when it comes to security and customer support, but it doesn’t feel like there’s much on offer. Let’s start with the good – there is a long and detailed user guide available on the website, and a helpful FAQs section, giving customers answers to most questions.
Speaking of support, there’s a customer service number, but it’s a toll free fax number – meaning you can fax to ask for support, but you cannot call and speak to a member of staff. However, MyFax are quite prompt at responding to messages if you contact them this way.
Regarding security, there’s very little information provided by MyFax. Since the service is provided by Consensus Cloud Solutions, you can be sure that all the standard security features will be there – such as encrypted transmissions and servers. But it would be nice to actually be told this.
The big security problem, however, is that MyFax is not HIPAA-compliant. This means you are not benefitting from the HIPAA protections when you fax any sensitive medical information or data with MyFax. Even the most expensive package at $45 per month does not offer this – which feels very expensive for a fax service that isn’t HIPAA compliant.
Final Score: 10/20
MyFax isn’t a strong enough service when it comes to quality, usability, or security features to get a higher score than this, and for most users we would recommend an alternative.
However, it is an acceptable budget option to consider if you’re looking to rarely send and receive faxes, but want to keep your own fax number without the hassle of owning a fax machine. That said, there are still very good alternatives to MyFax.
Alternatives to MyFax
MyFax is in a crowded market when it comes to online faxing – here are a few great alternatives we would recommend:
- For email-to-fax or web faxing: EveryFax has better pricing options and more security features like HIPAA protection, it also has a very user-friendly web portal, and an outstanding quality of fax.
- For mobile app faxing: Municorn’s Fax App, available on iPhone or Android, offers much better value – with HIPAA compliance and unlimited fax pages on any plan (including international faxing), and a very enjoyable app design, which has smart document scanning.
- For business faxing: EveryFax is a great alternative for business faxing, and so is eFax – MyFax’s sister company, which offers more corporate support and security for businesses who send and receive faxes.
