Quick answer: Chase uses a different fax number for each mortgage job. For mortgage assistance it’s 1-866-282-5682: write your full loan number at the top of every page, send all your documents together, then call 1-877-496-3138 to say they’re on the way. Payoff quotes for co-op units go to 1-318-402-4389, and insurance claim documents to 1-678-475-8899. Chase’s forms say faxing is free from any Chase branch.

Chase prints each mortgage fax number on the page or form for that job. We checked Chase’s pages and forms on 15 October 2026.

Mortgage assistance by fax

If you’re behind on a Chase mortgage, or about to be, the Request for Mortgage Assistance (RMA) is how Chase decides what help it can offer, from a repayment plan to a loan modification. It only gets looked at properly once it’s complete, so send everything in one go.

The two rules on Chase’s own pages

Chase’s FAQ says: “It’s best to send us all of your financial documents at the same time. It’s important that you write your complete loan number at the top of each page you send.” Both matter more by fax than by upload. A fax arrives as loose pages, and a pay stub with no loan number on it has nothing to tie it to your file.

What goes in the fax

Start with the Request for Mortgage Assistance form (RMA 6/2025), signed in Step 5. There isn’t a separate hardship letter: Step 2 asks what caused you to fall behind, and you answer on the form. Then the documents from Chase’s checklist:

Hardship documents Chase asks for

From the RMA form, Step 2.

If the hardship is Send
Unemployment Your benefits statement or letter showing the amount, frequency and duration
Reduced income Nothing extra, as long as your income documents show it
Divorce or separation The divorce decree or separation agreement signed by the court
A death The death certificate
Disability or illness A written statement from you or other documentation. Chase says: don’t send medical records or details of the illness
A disaster The insurance claim
Business failure Last year’s tax return with all schedules, plus a profit and loss statement or two months of business bank statements

Send copies, not originals: Chase’s checklist says documents won’t be returned.

What happens next

Chase says a team will call you within five business days once it has the form and all the required documents. It then sends a letter within 30 days of receiving everything it needs, listing the options you’re eligible for, and the ones you aren’t, with reasons. Keep making your normal payments while it reviews, the checklist says.

Those timings sit inside federal rules. Under Regulation X, a servicer has to acknowledge a loss mitigation application in writing within five business days and tell you whether it’s complete. A complete application received more than 37 days before a foreclosure sale has to be evaluated within 30 days, and, with limited exceptions, the servicer can’t go ahead with the foreclosure sale while it’s being considered.

Faxing an assistance application

  1. Write your full loan number at the top of every page, including the pay stubs.
  2. Put the signed RMA first, then income documents, then hardship documents.
  3. Add a cover page with your name, loan number, phone number and the page count. Our cover sheet generator makes one.
  4. Fax everything to 1-866-282-5682 in one go, and keep the transmission report.
  5. Call 1-877-496-3138 to say it’s been sent.

Payoff quotes, and co-op units

For an ordinary payoff quote you don’t send Chase anything: request it online or by phone and choose how it’s delivered. Chase’s payoff FAQ says a faxed quote should arrive within the hour, against 7 to 10 days by post. If someone else is requesting it for you, they need your signed Authorization to Furnish and Release Information, which goes to 1-614-422-7575.

Co-op units are handled separately. Email tri.state@jpmchase.com or fax 1-318-402-4389 with your name, the property address, your Chase loan number, the new lender’s details and your attorney’s contact details. Chase says the request can take up to 30 days from the day it arrives, so send it well before closing.

Insurance claims

If your home is damaged and the insurer’s cheque names Chase, Chase’s claim packet (REV 07/2026) splits claims at $40,000. Below that, you send or take the cheque to Chase to be endorsed. Above it, Chase needs the complete adjuster’s report and a signed repair affidavit with every field filled in, holds the money in an interest-bearing account, and releases it in stages after inspections. You can fax those documents to 1-678-475-8899 or upload them at InsuranceClaimCheck.com/chase.

Two numbers for one claim. If you want to use claim money to pay off or pay down the loan, Chase’s separate letter of authorisation (IC20-2037, dated 6/20) prints 1-614-929-3996, not the packet’s 1-678-475-8899. Call Chase’s claims line, 1-866-742-1461, and ask which one to use before you send it.

To send the RMA package without a fax machine, use Municorn Fax on your phone: scan each page with the camera, enter 1-866-282-5682 and keep the delivery report it gives you. The first single-page test fax is free. EveryFax handles the same job from an email inbox, with a two-week trial. Chase’s checklist also offers free faxing from any Chase branch. What is Chase’s mortgage fax number?

It depends on what you’re sending. Mortgage assistance documents go to 1-866-282-5682, co-op payoff requests to 1-318-402-4389, and insurance claim documents to 1-678-475-8899.

Can I fax Chase for a payoff quote?

Only for a co-op unit, on 1-318-402-4389. For other loans you request the quote online or by phone, and Chase can fax the quote to you, usually within the hour.

Do I need to write a hardship letter for Chase?

Not a separate one. The Request for Mortgage Assistance form asks what caused the hardship in Step 2, and you answer there. Add the hardship documents for your situation.

Should I send medical records to prove an illness?

No. Chase says to send a written statement or other documentation verifying the disability or illness, and not to send medical records or details of the illness.

How long does Chase take to decide?

Chase says it sends a letter within 30 days of receiving all the information it needs, which matches the federal 30-day rule for complete applications.
