Quick answer: Pennymac uses a different fax number for each job. Mortgage assistance applications go to (800) 947-1421, which Pennymac’s checklist recommends “for quickest response”. Proof of homeowners insurance goes to 866-235-1215, and one-time tax bills you want paid from escrow go to 866-577-7205. Insurance claims have no fax; they’re handled online. If a foreclosure sale is scheduled, Pennymac must receive a complete assistance application no later than the 38th day before the sale.
Pennymac prints each fax number on the page for that job, and none on its contact page. We checked every number on pennymac.com on 15 October 2026.

Mortgage assistance: “complete” is the word that matters
Pennymac’s checklist defines a complete application as “a fully completed and signed Mortgage Assistance Application” plus the supporting documents for your income and hardship. The application adds two rules:
- Every field. “All sections/fields of the application must be complete.”
- Every borrower. “ALL borrowers on the Note/Loan must provide application information and supporting documentation.” If someone else in the household contributes income but isn’t a borrower, they complete Pennymac’s Non-Borrower (Income Contributor) Authorization Form.
If you can’t get a document, don’t leave a gap. The checklist says you must include a written explanation for each missing document. And keep the originals: Pennymac asks you to send copies.
Supporting documents, by situation
Summarised from Pennymac’s application form. Your letter from Pennymac may ask for more.
| Situation | What to include |
|---|---|
| Paid by an employer | Pay stubs covering the most recent 30 days, or four weeks, of earnings from every employer |
| Self-employed | A signed quarterly or year-to-date profit and loss statement, plus your most recent tax return or Form 4506-C |
| Social Security, pension or disability income | The award letter, or two recent bank statements showing the deposits |
| Rental income | The lease and the mortgage statement, plus two bank statements or cancelled rent cheques |
| Unemployment | The benefits letter |
| Divorce or separation | The decree or separation agreement |
| A death in the household | The death certificate |
| A disaster | The insurance claim, or FEMA or SBA documents |
The foreclosure deadline
If you’re behind and a sale has been scheduled, Pennymac’s checklist says it “must receive your complete application no later than the 38th day before the scheduled foreclosure sale”. Some states differ: the 5th business day before the sale in California, the 7th business day in Minnesota and the 15th calendar day in Washington. That 38-day line comes from the federal rule, Regulation X: a complete application received more than 37 days before a sale has to be evaluated within 30 days, and, with limited exceptions, the sale can’t go ahead while it’s being considered. The same rule requires Pennymac to acknowledge your application in writing within five business days and tell you what’s missing.
Fax is the right choice near a deadline. The transmission report shows when each page reached Pennymac’s fax line. Post can’t do that, and an upload only helps if you’re already registered in the Modification Center.
Faxing an assistance application
- Fill in every field of the application and sign it, with every borrower.
- Write your loan number in the box at the top of each page of the form, and on each supporting document.
- Add a cover page with your name, loan number, phone number and the page count. Our cover sheet generator makes one.
- Fax the application and documents together to (800) 947-1421, and keep the transmission report.
- If you haven’t had Pennymac’s acknowledgement within five business days, call (866) 545-9070.
Proof of insurance and tax bills
Proof of insurance. If Pennymac has written to say it can’t confirm your cover, or has placed its own insurance on the loan, send your declarations page. Pennymac’s FAQ says uploading at mycoverageinfo.com/pennymac is fastest (you need your loan number, ZIP code and the last four digits of your SSN). By fax it’s 866-235-1215, and Pennymac updates the account within three to five business days. Questions: 866-318-0208.
Tax bills. Pennymac normally gets regular tax bills straight from the tax authority, so you don’t send those. Supplemental, interim and new-construction bills are posted to you instead. If you have an escrow account, write your loan number on the bill, add a note asking Pennymac to pay it from escrow, and fax it to 866-577-7205, or attach it to a Secure Message. Pennymac’s FAQ warns that paying one often leaves an escrow shortage, which raises the following year’s payment.
If there’s no fax machine in the house, Municorn Fax can send the application from your phone: photograph each page, enter (800) 947-1421 and save the delivery report. You can try it with one free single-page test fax. EveryFax works from your email inbox instead and has a two-week trial. For another servicer, see Chase.
